Great oven, not-so-great toaster

I've only had this toaster for one week and I'm still trying to figure out all of the features, or mostly I am hoping that I haven't figured out all of the features yet. It's a great oven, I have been able to bake just about everything that I can make in my full-sized oven but without wasting energy and heating up my entire apartment. I have had trouble, however, getting good toast out of this. My toast is always hard and dry and barely browned when I try to toast bread. So far I have tried baking, broiling, and the convection oven, and my toast always comes out the same. On the bright side, this is my second convection toaster oven and I really like the quiet operation of the convection fan.
